A
GUIDE FOR MEMBERS
OF BOY
SCOUT TROOP 156 CHARTERED
BY: PEACE
LUTHERAN CHURCH SHELBY
TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN Prepared
by the Leaders and Troop Committee of Troop 156 WELCOME
TO SCOUTS AND PARENTS OF TROOP 156 This
handout is intended to answer some of your questions about Troop 156 operating
policies, provide information about our activities, and discuss the philosophy
behind the operation of our Troop. We
have a very successful Troop, which is attributable to the support given by the
parents. Parents are encouraged to
become members of the Troop Committee, come on camping trips, help with Troop
activities, etc. Especially
important to your son and the Troop is your presence at Troop 156 Courts of
Honor. Our
Troop goals are to provide an environment in which:
1)
Scouts can have fun and be challenged by camping and high adventure
activities. 2)
Learn
scout skills, earn merit badges and progress on his trail to Eagle. 3)
Develop
scout spirit, citizenship and Troop leadership. The
Troop is Scout run with guidance from the Scoutmaster, the Assistant
Scoutmasters and committee members. The
Scouts are encouraged to grow by setting expectations in front of them and
feeling support behind them. Safety
is of paramount importance and the adult leaders will exercise discipline and
guidelines in accordance with the troop policy and the published regulations of
the Boy Scouts of America. A
permission slip will be required and signed by the parents before a Scout will
be allowed to participate in any activity held outside of are normal meeting
location. This not only lets us
know that the Scout has your permission, but also provides us with any medical
information we may need. In case of
an emergency, it is extremely important that we know how to contact you when
your son(s) is on an outing with us, It
also provides the parents with trip information and a local contact name and
phone number. Adults
also need a permission slip for all overnight trips that they are participating
in. This is required so that there
is contact information on hand in case of an emergency. Campouts
– The
troop tries to have an event every month. Special
campouts include caving, Klondike Derby, canoeing, high adventure trips, summer
camp, family camp, etc. Meetings
– Troop
meetings are held Monday night from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the gym at Morgan
Elementary School located at 53800 Mound Road (between 24 and 25 Mile Roads).
There is not a Troop meeting when the schools are closed. Committee
meetings are held the fourth Thursday of every month; unless it falls on a
holiday, then an alternate day will be chosen. (All
parents are encouraged to attend). If
you need information or want to talk to someone regarding an outing or scouting
in general, you may call anyone on the committee. Please refer to the Troop 156 Handbook for any additional
questions you may have. Thank you
for joining Troop 156, we look forward to working with you and your son. Yours
in Scouting on behalf of the Troop Committee, Michael
